HMO Insurance

One of the most common types of health insurance is that which is provided by an HMO or Health Maintenance Organization usually being offered by companies for their employees to make health care more affordable. The distinguishing characteristic of an HMO Insurance is that patients are required to avail of the health services provided only by accredited physicians and hospitals in a network in order to maximize the benefits of the health plan.

Indemnity Insurance

The term “indemnity” usually refers to a compensation for loss or damages. It’s the way it works for indemnity health insurance where in the traditional sense, the insurers will either reimburse you for the medical expenses you incurred whether partial or total or when the insurers pay a fixed amount to you on a daily basis (with a maximum number of days) to supplement your hospital stays, medical expenses and even food and transportation.

PPO Insurance

A Preferred Provider Organization or PPO operates similarly to an HMO such that it provides health insurance for their policyholders when a health need arises. The difference lies in the choice of the insured as to which doctor he prefers to treat him. In HMO, the insured has to choose only from a specific roster of doctors authorized by the health plan. In PPO, you still have that option to choose from authorized doctors under PPO but you are not limited to them, although they may be a less expensive alternative. You can choose to go to a doctor of your own if you feel more comfortable with him or if you believe that he is better equipped to handle your health care needs.

Dental Insurance

As the name suggests, dental insurance is the type of insurance that pays for your dental expenses for regular maintenance of your teeth to treatment of dental diseases or accidents to your teeth. Dental insurance is available in either HMO- or PPO-managed type of insurance. For Dental HMO, you need to stick with the list of approved doctors, while Dental PPO allows you to choose your own although they prefer that you choose from their preferred doctors too. A Dental PPO may cost more in monthly premiums compared to Dental HMO.

Vision Insurance

Vision Insurance is similar to Dental Insurance except that the focus of this health insurance is the eyes. Policyholders have the benefit of getting routine eye checks and receiving reduced costs for contact lenses and eyeglasses (including fitting and materials). Depending on the vision health plan, the insured may or may not have to pay a partial amount for vision services.
